Fire & Water Restoration

Q: What is Fabric Restoration?
Fabric restoration is a highly-specialized process by which damaged fabric items such as clothing, draperies and bedding are restored to their original condition.

Q: How is Fabric Renewal different from my regular dry cleaner?
A: We specialize in cleaning and restoring the items the regular dry cleaner is not capable of cleaning. We utilize our exclusive Fabric Renewal Cleaning System for restoring items that have been damaged by fire, smoke, and water. Whether it is a vintage wedding gown, a Persian rug, or a closet full of high-end designer clothing; we have experts to handle everything in your home. At Fabric Renewal, our professional staff is confident in our ability to solve all of your clothing and fabric cleaning problems.

Q: Is it true that Fabric Renewal is the only dry cleaner in this part of the country that only does fabric restoration?
Absolutely, there are a lot of retail dry cleaners who claim they do fabric restoration, but we are the only company to completely focus on this craft. What this means is that you are dealing with the most experienced and knowledgeable company in this field. Whatever you are faced with, we have seen it before and can help you handle it. At Fabric Renewal, we eat, sleep and drink fabric restoration and we are 100% committed to helping our restoration clients.

Q: Obviously you clean clothing but what other kind of items are you able to clean?
A: If it is made from fabric, we can clean it. From your favorite suit to your child’s stroller—we have perfected processes to clean; clothing, laundry, dry cleaning, shoes, belts, pocketbooks, luggage, draperies, blinds, shades, leathers, suede’s, fur, saris, wedding gowns, pillows, cushions, oriental rugs, upholstered furniture and so much more.

Q: Do you also do the basic laundry and dry cleaning items?
Of course, we can restore any of the soft goods you have in your home. We have entire departments that specialize in wash and fold laundry and dry clean only items. We can expertly clean anything that you would wash at home or have dry cleaned professionally—and lot of other items you never knew could be cleaned.

Q: Why is my insurance company recommending Fabric Renewal?
A: Your insurance company is recommending Fabric Renewal because they have complete confidence in our ability to help you through this process. Our reliability, customer service and expertise has made Fabric Renewal the industry standard since 1979. After receiving such positive feedback from past customers, your insurance company knows that you and your family will receive the best service available with the highest success rate possible by dealing with Fabric Renewal.

Q: How long have you been doing fire and water restoration dry cleaning?
A: We started out as a regular retail dry cleaner in 1979. We then turned our focus toward helping people recover from the devastating effects of fire and water damage. Through much research and persistence we developed the Fabric Renewal Cleaning System. As word of our amazing results spread, our restoration business grew. Today, we work for all the major insurance companies in our market and all we do is fabric restoration work.

Q: What is the Fabric Renewal Cleaning System?
The Fabric Renewal Cleaning System is our proven method for removing the damaging effects of fire, smoke, water, mildew, debris and odor from your fabric items. This unique system was developed over a thirty-year period of extensive research, testing and experience. You will not find a more comprehensive, effective and safe method for cleaning fabrics.

Q: Are you using harsh chemicals to clean my clothing?
People might assume that we are going to use aggressive chemicals to clean their clothing. The truth is that we use a tested combination of extremely effective detergents and proprietary processes. The Fabric Renewal Cleaning System is proven to work better then anything else available without using any harsh chemicals or masking agents.

Q: Will all my items be dry cleaned?
Our experts will analyze each of your possessions to choose the best cleaning method for that item. We have over twenty different cleaning and deodorization processes to choose from in the Fabric Renewal Cleaning System. Although some items are dry cleaned, the overwhelming majority is gently cleaned using water. We are passionate about doing what is best for your clothing and for the environment--and we promise to give every item the attention it deserves.

Q: What if something does not come clean?
A: Unlike your local dry cleaner who will charge you regardless of how your items clean, we offer our exclusive ‘risk-free guarantee.’

Q: What is your ‘risk-free guarantee’?
A: If an item does not respond to cleaning, there is absolutely no charge for it. Therefore, there is no risk in attempting restoration.

Q: Does it really make sense to attempt cleaning my items after a fire?
A: Absolutely, because we will be able to restore them to how they were before the fire for only a fraction of the cost of replacement. In fact, most people think their items look better after we return them then they did before the fire.

Q: How quickly should I remove items after a fire or water damage?
A: The quicker we can remove the items, the easier they will be to restore. This is especially true of water-related claims where mold and dye-transfer can complicate matters. We recommend calling Fabric Renewal as quickly as possible after a loss so that one of our experts can inspect the damage and advise you of your options.

Q: I had damage to my home over the weekend, is there anything I can do?
A: We understand that terrible things can happen at any time of day or night and we pride ourselves on always being there for you. We have a 24/7 answering service so that you can always reach us in your time of need.

Q: How do I decide what to have cleaned after a fire loss?
A: When you have mild damage to your home, the question will be whether or not your fabric items need cleaning? When you have more severe damage, the question will be whether or not all your fabric items can be completely restored? Let our experienced project managers guide you. We are here to help you through the entire claims process and to make sure your home and its possessions are returned to normal as quickly as possible.

Q: I had severe damage to my home, am I to assume that everything is now ruined?
A: Many people have the same initial reaction and it can be devastating to see your items in this state. Fortunately, the Fabric Renewal Cleaning System is proven to remove soot, odor and water even under the most severe conditions. As long as the dyes have not been removed and the fibers are not physically damaged; you will be amazed at how much we can restore. Specialty Cleaning

Q: How is Fabric Renewal different from a regular dry cleaner?
Whereas your regular dry cleaner focuses on cleaning suits and dress shirts, Fabric Renewal specializes in cleaning all the heavily-soiled fabric items from your home. We have technicians to handle everything from oriental rugs to fine window treatments. We are the experts at restoring the items most dry cleaners would never dream of cleaning.

Q: Can you provide us with a free estimate on specialty cleaning items?
In most circumstances, we can provide a free estimate by e-mail or over the phone. Please e-mail us at service@fabricrenewal.com with a digital picture of the items you would like cleaned. If you would prefer, call our care center at 1-888-9WE-CLEAN where we can walk you through the process.

Q: Is there a minimum charge for your specialty cleaning?
There is no minimum charge if you bring the items into our Bloomingdale, NJ cleaning facility. However, a minimum charge of $300 will apply to all projects where we go out to your home to pickup items or clean them on site.

Q: Is it possible to clean my Hunter Douglas shades?
In the past, it was virtually impossible to deeply clean them. In fact, we were so disappointed with the existing technology that we invented a system for cleaning them. That system is known as Aquamist™. You will not find a more thorough cleaning anywhere for your custom blinds and shades. We are able to clean the entire line of Hunter Douglas Window Fashions—including the silhouette and lunimnette shades. Please take a moment to view our ‘before and after’ photo gallery to witness the amazing cleaning of Aquamist. ((link to gallery here))

Q: Is it cheaper to just replace my shades then to have them cleaned?
Most ready-made or inexpensive treatments are not normally worth cleaning. If you have custom-made window shading, you can protect your investment and have them cleaned for a fraction of the replacement cost. All Hunter Douglas products are usually worth cleaning and they restore very nicely. Please take a moment to view our‘before and after’ photo gallery to witness the amazing cleaning of Aquamist. ((link to gallery here))

Q: How far will you travel to pickup my blinds and shades?
You are never too far away! If our vans cannot make it to your home, we will be happy to arrange a UPS pickup. Please call our care center at 1-888-9WE-CLEAN and we can advise you of your options.

Q: Is it better to clean my window treatments while they hang or to take them down?
Both methods are ideal in different situations. If the window treatments are not heavily soiled and you would like them cleaned on the same-day, then In-home cleaning may be the best option. If your window treatments are heavily soiled (or if you are doing work on your home) then take down and re-hang will be your best option. (Please note that our Aquamist™ Blind and Shade Cleaning System can only be performed at our facility.)

Q: Will my window treatments be re-hung just the way they are now?
Absolutely, that is one of our specialties. We have been the leader in this field for over thirty years by designing, installing, cleaning and re-hanging fine window treatments. Our technicians will come to your home to photograph, measure, and inspect every item. They will then be cleaned using the optimal cleaning and finishing process for your fabric, weave and finish. Upon return, your treatments will be hung, dressed and steamed to give it that perfect decorator’s look.

Q: Are you able to store my window treatments?
We will gladly store your treatments until you and your home are ready for their return. Many people choose to have their window treatments cleaned when they are having work done on their home. To protect your treatments, it is best to remove them before the work begins and to wait until all the work is complete before having them re-hung.

Q: How often do you recommend having your window treatments, rugs and upholstery cleaned?
There are several elements that will play a role in how often cleaning is necessary. These elements are; pets, open windows, cooking, burning candles, using a fireplace, having forced air heating, smoking in the home, traffic, and general usage.
It is advised to vacuum them regularly and to thoroughly clean them every 1-3 years depending on the presence and degree of these elements. If you are a seasonal or pet allergy sufferer, you can benefit greatly from a thorough cleaning at least once a year.

Q: Why do some draperies shrink when they are cleaned?
Some drapery fabrics are prone to shrinkage; with Moiré, antique satin and cotton chintz being the worst. This occurs because the manufacturer is using large pieces of treated fabric that has not been pre-shrunk. In fact, it is common for us to encounter drapery fabric that has shrunk simply from being exposed to normal humidity in the home and has never actually been cleaned. Fortunately, we have extensive experience with cleaning window treatments and we know which fabrics can present a problem.

Q: Is it possible to clean draperies without shrinkage?
Yes, in almost all cases it is. We have many different methods for cleaning drapery fabrics and we will utilize the method that is proven to produce the best cleaning with the minimum shrinkage. We then use tensioning equipment that gently relaxes the fabric back to its original length. Our experienced technicians can best advise you of your cleaning options.

Q: If my drapes are very old, can they still be cleaned?
The biggest risk factor when cleaning old draperies is sun-damage and dry rotting. Even the indirect, ultraviolet rays of the sun or a heating unit in the home can bleach the color from fabrics and eventually cause it to disintegrate. Delicate fabrics such as silk are especially susceptible to this form of damage. The key to safe and proper cleaning is in thorough pre-inspection. Our trained technicians can assess the potential risk of sun-damage and advise you on the cleaning options available.

Q: What is In-home cleaning?
This is a super-convenient way to have your window treatments, upholstered furniture and rugs cleaned without taking them from the home. One of our experienced technicians can arrange an appointment to come to your home and clean them while you wait. This will cause the minimal disturbance to your home and allow you to enjoy the finished product later the same day. Our customers love the convenience of our In-home cleaning service.

Q: How long does the In-home cleaning take?
This depends on the amount of items being cleaned and the degree of soiling. Most In-home cleaning projects can be completed in one visit, on one day and in only a few hours. (Please note that your items will require some time to dry after the In-home cleaning is complete.)

Q: Can you remove stains from my rugs, carpets and upholstery?
Whether it is a glass of red wine, or a spill from your painter; our stain removal experts can usually save the day. We may even be able to perform our stain removal magic right in your home with our In-home cleaning team.

Q: What stains can you remove?
Stain removal is a combination of chemistry and patience. Before you remove a stain, you need to know what the stain is from, what material it is on and how the dyes and weaves will react to the stain removal agents. We have had great success removing wine, juice, coffee, ink, gum, paint, blood, vomit, pet stains, rust, tar, grease, water marks and even dye. Before you give up on a cherished item, please give us a call. Whatever you do, please do not try a home remedy—more times then not it will permanently set a stain.

Q: What should I do if I have a spill or an accident?
You can blot up as much of the staining substance as possible with a soft, clean, white, cotton rag. Never brush or rub the fibers, as this can easily result in damage. Avoid the temptation of reaching for a magic stain remover or a bottle of seltzer water. More times then not, this will result in permanently setting a stain. Next, you should pick up the phone and speak to a Fabric Renewal Technician.
