Q: What do you do for Fabric Renewal?
A: I guess it depends on when you ask. Over the years, I have basically done a little bit of everything. I spent the better part of ten years in the trenches learning the finer points of dry cleaning, stain removal, and all the aspects of the fabric restoration business. As we have grown and our company has changed, my role has evolved. I am now the self-appointed director of training, innovation, and company vision. Really, my job is to make sure we never become complacent. I am always pushing us to learn, improve, and ask questions - basically, to be uncomfortable with the status quo. I am a big believer in personal development and constant improvement.
Q: What gets you excited about your business?
A: In a word, PROGRESS. I still get excited about the smallest improvement, innovation, and development. I am very passionate about training my team. I take great pride in what my family has developed over the years, and I love passing that on to everyone in the company and the insurance industry. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than when I watch an employee develop and grow both personally and professionally.
Q: What's an example of a recent special project?
A: I do not like disappointing people, and I definitely do not like saying no to my clients. When an adjuster asked me to clean a couple of very expensive, badly dye-stained couches recently, I didn't have the heart to tell him that we do not clean couches. Needless to say, I got some weird looks when I rolled into the cleaning department with a van full of fine furniture. Twenty hours and two hundred Q-tips later, Juan presented to me a set of unbelievably restored couches. The guys won't admit this, but I think they enjoy the challenge of the impossible jobs as much as I do. By the way, we are now doing some amazing couch cleaning for our clients.
